Final Post

Over the last 2 weeks I have not been able to log many hours in my coaches office because I had to spend crazy hours working with my policy group on our strategic plan. This past weekend Coach J asked me to manage a youth AAU tournament. One of my responsibilities was scheduling workers to work the concession stand, run game clock, do scorebook, and to run the shot clock. I also had to order food for the staff and ensure that we had everything we needed. Coach J gave me her keys and let me run the show. It was a lot of work and very long hours, but the experience was amazing. I got the opportunity to be involved with basketball and operations; two things I aspire to find my career in so it was great. My hours were Fri. 6pm-10:30pm Sat. 8:00am-10:30pm Sun. 8:00am-6pm. My total for the 3 days was 29 hours which gives me a grand total of 121 hours for my internship. Through interning with Coach J I have learned a lot of things that players do not understand; there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes; not just practicing and game days. Working with a coach is a good idea and a way to get the inside scope of what coaching is all about.

MONTH from graduation!!!

The past 2 weeks I have been really busy; working with Coach J, SMA club stuff, and working on the "future." I have continued working with the Frontrush recruiting program in coaches office. I learned to write athletic contracts, travel itineries, and made a recruiting viewbook. The SMA club is getting a little better and we just ordered our club Ts! EXCITING! I have logged a total of 17hrs the past 2 weeks giving me a grand total of 92hours.

This week I worked 20hours. Some thing I did were tagging at the MU lacrosse game with Kirby last Friday. It was a new experience because I'd never seen a game before. This week I also worked concessions at the softball and baseball games this week for Coach McEvoy. I earned 11 hours working in Coach Jarmans office. I helped with recruiting packages, wrote basketball contracts, and plugged recruits into the Frontrush program. After this week I have a total of 74 internship hours

Life after Bball!

Since the last time I have blogged I have worked 27 hours. I earned hours doing film breakdown, interviews, and SMA club meetings. I also worked in Kirbys office helping her plug in stats on the website and office work.
We just returned from spring break and while I was home I got to interview Tom Stephens; the director of operations at The Citadel (I also sat in on their practice). This was really exciting to me because I hope to have that position one day. Mr. Stephens was really nice and he gave me great advice on how to go about getting my foot in the door. Today I'm working the Lacrosse game with Kirby and on Friday I will meet with Dr. Combs to work with Dartfish. 3/11/09

What I've done in 2009

I've actually gotten off to a slow start with my internship. Dr. Combs has given me to freedom to do different activities towards my internship, so that is what I have been doing. I have only racked up 24 hours to date. Somethings I have done for hours are: interviewed some members of the athletic staff at Methodist, basketball film breakdown for my coaches, observed our boys basketball practice operations, and marketed the SMA workshop at Jack Britt High School. After the season I plan to throw myself into learning the ins and outs of the Dartfish program.

Finished Highlight

This week I put the finishing touches on the MU Men's Basketball Highlight tape. Dr. Combs and I figured out how to put music on the highlight. We had tried numerous times to put music on the highlight but the computers on campus did not have the right programs installed so we used his personal computer. I also trimmed more film for the 07 Dragons Challenge highlight with another intern. 11 hours worked, total 73 hrs. 4/4/08 12:45am
